DSD PADI Discover SCUBA Diving Course. A short resort type course for people to learn basic SCUBA diving skills and experience SCUBA diving as a once-off experience.
FSDC PADI Open Water Diver Certification Courses. These are for gaining essential formal SCUBA diving qualifications.
OE PADI Specialty Marine/Ocean Education Courses. These are courses about the oceans, reefs and ocean creatures.
JED Junior Ocean Exploration Diver Course.This is an Ocean Vision Marine/Ocean Education and Adventure course for 13 to 15 Year Old Young Adults to develop young adult’s spirit of adventure and their understanding of the oceans.

 

PADI Discover SCUBA Diving (DSD)

Specialty Course Course Description Cost
Discover SCUBA Diving (DSD) This course introduces you to SCUBA diving with SCUBA skill training in a swimming pool and registers you with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). It is a short course and not a full diving qualification. It does however contribute to your open water qualification and can include one ocean dive with your instructor in one of two options:
Option 1:
An additional ocean reef boat dive on Aliwal Shoal with your instructor on a day after your SCUBA skill training in a pool.
Option 2:
A shore entry dive with your instructor at Vetch’s pier bay in Durban.
The cost of your pool session in Umkomaas that includes the hire of your diving gear is R950-.
Option 1.
An additional ocean reef boat dive with your instructor on day 2 is R1800- that includes your diving equipment hire. Or…
Option 2.
The additional shore entry dive with your instructor on day 2 at Vetch’s pier bay from the Durban Undersea club is R700- that includes your diving equipment hire.

PADI Advanced Open Water (AOW) Diver.
Qualify to dive to 30 metres.
Yes Professional instruction, duration 3 days over 2 weekends weather permitting. Includes your PADI AOW manual, class room sessions , no written exam, 2 shore entry plus 3 adventure boat dives to qualify. R6800 – Minimum 2 students
PADI Enriched Air/Nitrox specialty Yes Professional instruction, duration 1 day that includes a final exam and no dive required to qualify. R2200 – Minimum 1 student
PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Yes Professional instruction, 1.5 days over 1 weekend. 2 shore entry ocean dives. R3000 – Minimum 1 student

 


All courses include a manual/ pack, knowledge reviews (to be completed from your manual) and your PADI qualification; there are no exams for the Advanced Open water Course, the Underwater Naturalist Specialty or for the Peak Performance Specialty.

If you are planning to become a PADI Master SCUBA Diver, you will need two other specialty course qualifications, an Emergency First Response Certification and the Rescue Diver Qualification that we also offer on request.

 

PADI Specialty Marine/Ocean Education Courses (OE)

PADI Ocean Exploration Diver Distinctive Specialty.
Minimum qualification: advanced open water diver or Class 4 commercial diver.
Day 1: 6 hours of classroom tuition learning about Maritime charts, oceans, types of ocean reefs, ocean bathymetry and SONAR equipment to be used on the boat.Day 2: Deploying a SONAR Tow-fish transducer, running sea-lanes searching for a ship wreck or other sunken artefact. Diving onto the selected GPS way-point. Short report back on bottom finding. 6 Divers R1366- Each

The costs includes the complete course and your PADI Specialty Qualification however, does not include your personal diving equipment.
PADI Shark Aware Diver Distinctive Specialty.
Conducted from June to October each year.
Minimum qualification: advanced open water diver or Class 4 commercial diver.
This course consists of 6 hours of classroom lectures and teaches you about large sharks, their body language, how to interact with sharks, their anatomy and their role in the oceans as ocean life regulators. There are two dives on day 2 with Ragged Tooth Sharks on Aliwal Shoal. 4 Divers R2575- Each

PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty. Minimum qualification: open water diver. Professional instruction, 2 days over 1 weekend weather permitting. Classroom sessions and 2 ocean boat dives. R3800 – Minimum 1 student.
The cost includes the complete course and your PADI Specialty Qualification however, does not include your personal diving equipment.
Wreck Diver Specialty 4 ship wreck boat dives Cost provided on demand.
Deep Diver Specialty 4 open water boat dives. Cost provided on demand.

Ocean Vision Marine/Ocean Education and Adventure for 13 to 15 Year Old Young Adults (JED):

This is a course to develop young adult’s spirit of adventure and understanding of the Oceans


Junior Ocean Exploration Diver

Course Description JED Module Details and Cost

This is a course for developing young people’s spirit of adventure who are interested in learning about the oceans. Designed for 13 to 15 year old people interested in the oceans, ocean life and ocean exploration. The minimum number of students is one and the maximum number is 4 per course. This is a course to develop young adult’s spirit of adventure, their understanding of the oceans and themselves. There are three modules required for the Junior Ocean Exploration Diver (JED) certificate of achievement qualification. Concerned parents of the participants are welcome to attend the modules. Boat trip/s cost for them can be paid directly to the boat operators or skipper. Parents are welcome to attend knowledge development sessions free of charge.

Instructor and DM

Module 1 – (Day 1)
Venue: Umkomaas.

The cost of your PADI Discover SCUBA diving pool session in Umkomaas that includes the hire of your diving gear is R950-. Please see Table DSD for more details.
Module 2 –
Knowledge development (Day 1).

After the pool sessions, we leave Umkomaas for a Classroom session at the Ocean Vision classroom/mini lab venue: 3 Beach Road, Doonside, 28 Kms south of Durban to conduct the marine biology and ocean chemistry assignment, followed by tuition about using SONAR to find ship wrecks. Cost R250- each includes lunch.
Module 1 option 1 (Day 2 weather permitting).
An additional ocean reef boat dive with your instructor on a second day is R1800- each that includes your diving equipment hire. Or…

MODULE 1 OPTION 2 (DAY 2 WEATHER PERMITTING)

The additional shore entry dive with your instructor on a second day at Vetch’s pier bay from the Durban Undersea club is R700- that includes your diving equipment hire.

Module 2 –Knowledge development (Day 2).

The chosen Module 1 dive option dive is followed by classroom presentations on the oceans, oceanography and ocean life at the Durban Under Sea Club, or the Ocean Vision classroom depending on the chosen option. R250- that includes lunch.

JED Module 3 (Day 3 weather permitting)
Venue: Umkomaas:

Boat Launch from Umkomaas with SONAR equipment on board. Participants locate a ship wreck on the SONAR screen display on the boat. Back on land this is followed by the presentation of Junior Ocean Exploration Diver (JED) certificates.

Cost of JED module 3: R2600- per participant.

The Total Cost of the junior ocean exploration diver course is Either R5900- (Module 1, option 1) or R4800- ((Module 1, option 2).
